Rock n' Soul: New Paintings by LIONEL TALARO
January 19 - April 19, 2012
MEET the ARTIST: Friday February 3, 5 pm to 9 pm

The Art of Lionel Talaro: rock n soul
larger view

LIONEL TALARO has returned to O'Dunn Fine Art, with a selection of beautifully rendered oil paintings of rock and soul musicians.

His prior show here, "Divine Bovine" (scroll down for details), was one of our most successful exhibitions ever, and nearly sold out. Lionel continues to demonstrate his virtuosity for figure painting in this new selection of works.

Join us for refreshments and to meet Lionel on Friday February 3, from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Educated at the Art Center in Pasadena and the Art Institute in Calabasas, Lionel began his career as an illustrator in 1992 in the motion picture and comic book industries. The appeal for Talaro's work has been recognized via numerous awards and an extensive commercial and private client list. A musician himself, he brings a special empathy to these images.

La Jolla oil painter Paul Strahm has returned from Ireland with a second place award from Art in the Open (AITO) 2011, Europe's largest plein air painting event! Paul was the only American to receive an award in this year's paint-out, which included over 100 artists from Ireland and around the globe.

Under the sponsorship of O'Dunn Fine Art, Paul painted in various parts of the country as well as at several AITO venues. AITO participant Lori Putnam has posted a wonderful narrative blog on this plein air invitational, including a photo of Paul at work on his winning painting: blogspot.com

See Paul's award-winning Enniscorthy street scene at artintheopen.org

Plan to join us on October 22 for the unveiling of The Ireland Paintings: Paul's signature treatment of the Irish countryside, street scenes, coast and waterways.

AbEx invades La Mesa Village! Bay area abstract expressionist John Krempel brings a selection of larger oil and acrylic paintings to O'Dunn Fine Art for this exciting show.

Influenced by the 20th century San Francisco abstract expressionist movement, John references the beauty of both natural and manmade landscapes in his work. He has been featured in dozens of bay area shows, and is the founder of the Temporary Artists Group (TAG), which brings emerging artists to the community. With degrees in both the arts and psychology, John's paintings dance at the interface of the physical and psychological worlds.

OMG! John Krempel's oil painting "Skyscrapers in the Night" has been chosen by editor Jocelyn Waters for the cover of SDArtGuide for October-December 2011. This quarterly publication will have 10,000 copies distributed countywide....you go, John! Thank you, Jocelyn!

You are invited to view the largest exhibit of Wade Cline's paintings currently available. On July 27, meet Wade Cline, get first peek at this wonderful collection, and enjoy the elegant renderings of guitarist Bruce Harvey. Catering and beverage service for Meet the Artist hosted by First Republic Bank of La Mesa.

"Painting the environment that we're inured to sharpens our confusion, for better or worse. Cline's diffusing fog and obscure streets, his private no traffic time of day, his candor on how difficult it is to get any scene onto canvas- all replicate the doubt that artists (certainly the best ones) face in the fire of creation".

Thomas Larson, "Last Light", in the San Diego Reader, August 26th, 1999.

O'Dunn Fine Art wishes to thank Mr. Larson for his inspired article, and title, borrowed here for this exhibit.

O'Dunn Fine Art, in partnership with the family of Stan Sowinski, presents a selection of over 40 fresh-to-the-market, mature works of this notable San Diego painter.

These impressionist landscape, portrait and still life oil paintings manifest the intimacy, spirituality, and sense of place that Stan brought to his depictions of the natural world, and of his fellow man.

Stan Sowinski maintained a stable price structure for his paintings over his career, and we will respect this by offering these works at Stan's prices. The one-month exhibit and sale represents an extraordinary opportunity for collectors and admirers of Stan's work to view and acquire some of the few remaining original paintings to be offered for sale from his studio.
